2 minutes

2 lines I wish to write
taking 2 minutes of my time

2 minutes I get,
to pen this down

2 minutes of respite giving
few lines of glittering words

2 gleaming wings
flying through my mind

curing the blind

an empty canvas it is,
the one I loved it indeed is

I stare at the white screen
that makes me wanna scream

finally I let loose my stream of words,
and that brings in a flock of birds

but in place of the usual dribble
I feel a sense of trouble

a new fear is here
and it seems to be not from near

as the words keep appearing
I find the trouble disappearing

I won this time
but will it stand the test of time

the doubt is here to stay I fear
but I love the end to be near

like a crown made of thick lead,
it sits on my head

drying up my trickling stream of words,
and driving off the flocking birds

the drought has been long
and I feel I do not belong

o mother of creativity
i beg thy for the clarity

for this son has sinned
and for it he has been pinned

unlock thy kindness
so he can cure his blindness

and open his wretched heart
so he can do his part

the icy seductress

the soft gurgling noise of the icy rivulets fills the stark silence of the pitch black nights.

the silvery water keeps rolling and knocking against soft round pebbles that fill the river bed

the soft streams cradled among the rocky mountains seem to carry a strange divinity

I went to sleep every night with the same soft gurgling sound filling my ears, and the images of the clear blue water tumbling all along the rocks filling my mind before I lose myself into its magical hypnotism
dipping oneself into the hypnotic trance

I wake up each morning and walk over the icy rivulets and seat myself on the rocks by the river, often letting my limbs play with the flow of the icy waters. I kept wondering about the tiny streams flowing eternally, gracing rocks of all shapes, tumbling on and on, forming the shape of the land for huge distances, and making up the eternal cycle of life.

Clocks were seldom needed here as the river seemed tell the time in synergy with the sun and the thick mist. They together formed and dispersed all sense of time in the valley. They decide when you wake up and when you can summon enough courage to walk out of the tent. They decide when you get tired and when you get into slumber.

when ones very breathing moments are left to the mercy of the skies, the boulders around and the ever strengthening currents of the icy waters, life becomes a synchronous embodiment of the very same elements that surround us. In their company I had the strong sense of being alive as a human being again.

Left to the wild in a group of like minded and similarly witted human beings, man learns to create a sense of community and life among the forces of nature.

Felt like being close to the real purpose and sense of being human... again.. a sense of continuous rebirth :)

this is fashion

when Pretty Preeti came to school,
wearing a pretty short dress,
and she looked awesome
they said this is fashion

All my friends bought the same
and I was told
"you should try it too,
because this is fashion"

When I showed it to mom
she said
"Sweetie, its too short,
but then its the fashion"

Next day when I wore it to school,
I could feel the eyes of boys on me
but then I told myself
"its the fashion"

When the news broke that
some school girls were eve-teased
I heard someone say
"its the fashion"

The poem has been written from the perspective of teenage girl who grapples through the conundrum of fashion in a society that glorifies and condemns with equal villainy.

regain the step

the pen is drained
the mind is sprained
the leg is draped
and the wings are clipped

I breathe no air
I gasp in despair
there is no fear
but only this nightmare

its a time for patience
and to stare at patients
to be blatant
and to sit as another patient

to bring in the energy
I need to find the synergy
i don't need any swamiji
but I need to regain my chi

the road might be tough
but the roadie is rough
it ain't about being buff
but about regaining the hoof

a distant rose

the naughty smile
that sweet innocence always present.
too sweet to ignore

but each time I go near
the thorns prick
and the smile vanishes

hence I stare from afar
at the brave heart
that commands an iron body

smooth yet firm is the face,
always lit up with the bright smile
the mind clear and straight

always swimming in great ideas
no time for petty people
for the journey is long.

open to strangers
but finding the good ones is difficult
for everyone is behind a mask

the mind is held high
heart ever racing
future is bright

but one doesn't know
who is being talked of here
only that someone I love

oh sweet mother in the heaven

what more do I need to offer
for you to shower ur nectar
for the pretty things I wish to forge

the music is there
the mad head shaking is here
and the frenzied prayer

I have but scribbled on the wall
but things are moving in a crawl
don't be so cruel..

the lights are dim
and the plates are clean
all that is awaited is the gleam

for you I shall embarrass myself before all
for you are the one who shall give me all
and am just awaiting your call

creativity, oh great mother of writers
will you not bless this critter
for to you is my fealty pledged.

the lazy cat meows

sitting alone in my bed in our empty apartment I wonder how different my life has been from the people I see around me.

Though I am not from a very exquisite variety, the simple variations and differences that don't get appreciated in every group is what makes me unique.

The uniqueness of my character is often to my advantage, or so I believe always. But sometimes the obvious disadvantage of alienation and difficulty in connecting can be troublesome.
But as an experienced handler of situations, these just disappear.

The slightly different stroke of colours on this cat has given it a completely different life altogether.

I was reading this essay titled "What you can't say" from the much celebrated book "Hackers & Painters" yesterday night before bed. It talks about things that are considered taboo in some societies and eras whereas it is the norm in others. The essay cleverly traverses questions of the assumed morality that every era and every society wears as a mask on itself. I don't remember if I got to a point where the author asks anything to be done about it, but still a walk through the jungle of social customs is something every intellectual, every nerd, every wallflower and every introvert would have gone through.

hmmm I wonder if the previous adjectives are mutually exclusive or just inaccurate labels of people from the same pool.

As the certified "thinking idiot" around here, I can't help thinking on these silly things as well. Every simple thing around has to go through the machinery of thought process that my head dictates. Take it or leave it, it says to those who want me to change or tell me to not think about something when it has to be done with seriousness and passion. And who doesn't appreciate the pleasure of ruminating on crazy ideas that border creativity but usually get labelled as ramblings? Well, it must be those who want immediate results from the creative fellas,  but can't spare them their space or peace. Move over, give some space! duh..

well, with that junk unloaded from my head, I can focus on writing the real articles that I was targeting from weeks ..with all the tough schedules of relentless journey into the distant wooods.. which reminds me of the famous line from Robert Frost..

“These woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.”

I always felt these lines were pure blasphemy, but still liked and promoted people who went by it (studies have found that such people are quite sensitive in nature)

These lines are exactly those of a person tied to his/her responsibilities very tightly. On the outside such people seem heroic and morally 'correct'. But in a context where the morality of every action is to be considered w.r.t the reaction it causes, such lines of blind faith in ones' duties are troublesome.

Duties are a difficult thing to comprehend. Everyone accomplishes some or the other duties in their lives. I can write thousands of confusing lines and zig-zag thoughts can be generated about duties and rights. But here, I would just like to reflect upon one fact that duty is of two types. One is self imposed and the other is imposed by the society. Most of the people mix the two and usually the latter decides completely what the former is. But those of the readers who would have taken up duties onto themselves without any social beckoning would know what I am talking about. It is a nectar whose taste is unparalleled and no glorified duty handed down even by Lord Devendra's father Muthupattar would match the satisfaction it provides.

And to me, the woods which are so lovely, dark and deep, are naturally occurring duties. Not for sleeping in, but to live in. No promise, no responsibility and no duty is higher than being right to your conscience. Everything else vanishes into thin air in its unquestionable superiority.

And a thoughtful Dilbert piece to finish off the ramblings..

Freedom - A collaborative poem

Another crazy collaborative poem by L&T GETs.
Hope someone can make some sense out of it :)

again and again !!!
again again they came

over the hills they came

to conquer us they came

with arms they came

with elephants they came

but we had onething they didn't

and that was courage

which did them in

and we kept our freedom

the freedom to live

to love, to work, to pray

the freedom was lost

the day people slaughtered

and created graves

brothers killed brothers

that wasn't the fate

the fight for land ,

the fight for fame,

were dey lame ?

63yrs passed hence,

still no name

we call it FREEDOM

i call it SHAME

and what a shame

it is when can't share

ones feeling for others

for the fear of the rule

freedom  it is called

i call it fiefdom!

Hail, the mankind

Hail, the name

lets set out to get back

wat we lost , wat we had

it is but just a matter of act

waiting for someone to re-act

why do we wait, wen we can act ?

we keep on complaining

as a matter of fact....

Fine Print

This is a sarcastic poem.
Never bothered about the beauty :) apologies..

I have read,
of the great eagles

that spread fear in the air..

Of the atrocious wars
also i have read
that burnt millions of lives..

Even sagas
of the most perilous of expeditions
have I read..

But one thing i hadn't read

which rewrote my story
and brought me to the present...

 Now I do nothing more
than just wishing that I had read
the offer letter twice.

The day passes on

Another poem composed when a small break presented itself after a season of hectic work..

Sitting with both legs over the pc,
staring at the beautiful wallpaper,
listening to a soothing music track,
Here I am,waiting for snacks time.

All windows minimized,
but still one WINDOWS open,
I sit like this ,
awaiting a timeout.

Work will go on,
but life will not,
time will go on,
but happiness may not.

And now after one full hour,
I am back,
after a sumptuous snack,
peppered with gossip.

Even had a client meeting,
with a lot of staring
and a game of tic-tac-toe;
it was indeed a client call.

So here I sit now,
with both my legs over the desk,
awaiting my supervisor
and his usual questions.

For that I do have answers,
and good ones those are
so good that
even enemies will love me.

Ah so passes the day,
and so are people,
leaving for the day,
hoping for some respite.

Rain - A collaborative poem

The following poem was penned by a group of enthusiastic engineers who were working as Graduate Engineer Trainees in Larsen & Toubro Embedded Systems and Software in 2010(as far as I can recall).

There were nearly 3-4 people involved in preparing this line-by-line over a group chat using the tool Ipmsg, which was a rage until the IT dept banned it..

Presenting to you -- Rain

here comes the rain again..

falling from the stars

drenched in my pain  again...

washing away my fears

quenched be my mental-sprain again

memories flush down the drain

leaving behind just the grain

gazing over the main

waiting for someone

to fill-up the strain

it seems like a never ending chain

we are wandering in the NO-ENTRY lane....

and got rewarded with a cane

for which i had no care

until it started to pain

the pain made me insane

i thought i was inane

i had to but control the game,

so i set out to prove my name

only to end up lame

helped by a dame

i learnt to dream

and to whip the cream

in a world without a frame

a short poem composed a year back

one day u will be
free from the bondage
that holds u in

the chains that hold ur
heart and mind, shall be
thrown away into the ocean

u shall be able to look at the sun
with the same shine in ur eyes
that u had once

ur strength shall be restored,
with renewed vigour
opening up the flood gates

for however foolish a step might be
your intentions shall lead you to ur destiny,
fueled by your passion and effort.

Vacation

i am sitting in the reclining chair
feeling so light headed and clear

eyes laden with sleep
but pc laden with work

mind is wandering so free
reluctant to join the spree

dreaming it is a saturday
though the clock say its friday

i just wish to be on a vacation
where no one comes for dictation

Dreams

Sitting in office
doing the work,
I suddenly hooked
on to a discussion.

I got transported
to those golden days
when the mind was ignited
and I was full of dreams.

Those ideas,those sparking
days, have they gone?
Have they died?
Where those dreams or just fantasies?

I like to believe that
they were not.

The day will come
when I will see those
dreams closer to me,
and then I will merge with them, for good.

For now, I need to
hold on to my
decision, and carry on
with this endeavour.

For fruits of this,
however delayed it might be,
is bound to be sweet,
for which I shall wait.
